daziIn a dramatic escalation of trade tensions, China has declared it will "fight to the end" in response to a looming 50% tariff hike by the United States. President Donald Trump's ultimatum—withdraw Chinese tariffs or face steeper U.S. levies—has pushed bilateral relations to the edge of a new economic confrontation.

Trump’s strategy could raise total U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports to 104% this year, exacerbating strain on Chinese exporters already suffering from earlier levies. Chinese authorities slammed Washington’s threats as “a mistake on top of a mistake,” accusing the U.S. of engaging in economic blackmail.

While Beijing considers countermeasures, including consultations with major firms like Didi and Trina Solar, analysts warn that continued escalation may shift the battle from economics to ideology. “It becomes a battle of wills,” said Xu Tianchen of the Economist Intelligence Unit.

Despite internal dissent and growing public criticism of U.S. policy, China appears resolute. “We do not provoke trouble, nor are we afraid of it,” stated Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian.

Trump’s tariffs target key export strategies, including relocating production and diversifying markets. Though Chinese voices express dismay, Beijing seems committed to resisting what it views as an unjust economic offensive.
