This morning, multiple drones were spotted over Copenhagen, prompting police to cordon off the area surrounding the US Embassy.
Copenhagen police officially announced the closure of Dag Hammarskjölds Allé, the street in the Østerbro district where the American embassy is located, advising drivers to take alternate routes. Authorities are investigating a "suspicious event," though details remain undisclosed and no official connection to the drones has been made.
A witness on the scene told Adnkronos, "Everything is shut down, schools and buildings evacuated, helicopters are flying overhead."
This development comes at a sensitive time for Copenhagen. Today and tomorrow, September 18 and 19, the Danish capital is hosting the NATO Military Committee conference, attended by the defense chiefs of NATO member countries. A temporary airspace restriction has been imposed over much of the city and the island of Amager, prohibiting drone flights without written police authorization.
Yesterday, Danish police announced charges against two individuals in separate incidents for flying drones within the restricted zone. There is currently no official indication of any connection between those incidents and the current situation near the US Embassy.
