No explosives were discovered on the three vans stopped on Sunday following the alleged attack plan near the UK's RAF Fairford airbase, which is also used by the United States in the conflict against Iran.
This was reported by the Mirror among others, after anonymous sources confirmed no functioning explosives were found.
The news comes amid a backdrop of uncertainty and contradictions about the incident, following the release on bail of all five British citizens—aged between 23 and 25—who were arrested for allegedly "planning a terrorist attack" just the day before.
The US Secretary of State commented on the situation on Fox News, stating: "What could have happened in the UK over the weekend is very serious. It clearly involves the hands of a foreign actor." According to Rubio, the thwarted terrorist plot "could have been and was, I believe, a very serious threat."
