Russell Wins in Singapore, but Verstappen Gets Closer to the Title

The 2025 Formula 1 season entered its final phase with the Singapore Grand Prix, which provided thrills and a result that, albeit weakly, reopened the championship. The surprise winner was George Russell (Mercedes), who capitalized on a strategic error by Red Bull and Max Verstappen's exit from the points. The Marina Bay circuit once again proved to be unpredictable. Russell, starting from the second row, drove a flawless race, putting pressure on the frontrunners until a crucial Red Bull pit error cleared his path to victory. Behind him, completing the podium, were Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and Lando Norris (McLaren), second and third, respectively. For Ferrari, it was a mixed day: Charles Leclerc finished fourth, while his teammate, Lewis Hamilton, struggled, finishing outside the points. Despite missing out on the podium, Leclerc's points keep the Scuderia in contention for second place in the constructors' championship, though the gap to Red Bull remains large. Although Russell's victory in Singapore ended his streak of consecutive victories, Max Verstappen's quest for the world title remains all but over. The Dutchman maintains a commanding lead in the overall standings. The next round, the United States Grand Prix in Austin on October 19, is seen by analysts as a potential match point for the reigning champion, who could mathematically secure yet another world title with several races to spare. Formula 1 now moves overseas for the American rounds, with the Mexican Grand Prix (October 26) following the Texan round.
