Donald Trump has once again discussed a potential diplomatic breakthrough in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The U.S. president announced that a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky could be arranged soon, claiming that contacts with Moscow and Kyiv are yielding promising results. No date or location has been set for the possible summit, but the White House appears eager to speed up the negotiation process.

His remarks have reignited hopes for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict, although the conditions under which both parties would agree to meet remain unclear.

Alongside military and territorial issues, significant economic interests are reportedly emerging in discussions between Washington and Moscow. According to the Financial Times, one of the topics being considered is the return of American companies to the Russian oil sector, potentially through the reactivation of joint industrial projects.

One opportunity could involve exploiting energy resources off the coast of Sakhalin Island in Russia's Far East, where American and Russian companies had previously collaborated in the hydrocarbons sector.

The potential resumption of these activities could serve as an economic incentive in the negotiations, but no definitive agreements have been reached. Additionally, how such initiatives would align with Western sanctions imposed on Moscow following the invasion of Ukraine remains to be clarified.

While diplomatic contacts continue, military operations have not ceased. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported intercepting and shooting down 531 Ukrainian drones overnight, noting incursions in various regions of the country, including Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Rostov, and the capital area.

Moscow's report has not been independently verified. Russian Telegram channels reported attacks in the Moscow region, while Ukrainian monitoring sources noted explosions and fires in the city of Lipetsk, including near the large Novolipetsk metallurgical plant.

These reports confirm the intense military tension accompanying attempts to reopen political dialogue between the parties.
